The Wandering Children of Kak'Vasha

Within the deserts surrounding Somati is a tribe of Eolo nomads, wandering from oasis to oasis, never settling for long in one city. In rare instances, they can be found wandering the rest of the world beyond the Sanctuary on foot. For now they remain in their ancestral home of the expansive deserts while the mists claim most of the lands beneath the Mother Tree.

The group had developed this nomadic practice in reverence of an old Eolo legend, or at least one believed to be the true story of the Eolo. Most call them zealous and mad, however their tribe does indeed persist, even if their numbers are few.

The story of “The most powerful Eolo, Kak’Vasha,” and his knowledge defying feats shape the very basis of their beliefs. For the world knows, Eolo are reviled as profaned, demonic, magicless children by most beyond the Sanctuary, however, this story suggests something nothing short of ludicrous.

Long ago when the Eolo were being driven to the brink of society by other sentient species, there was tell of a lone Eolo who would gather the scattered groups, and lead them to a new home, one among the sands. This man was said to bear the name Kak’Vasha, and his followers claimed he could use true magic, of many kinds, and with it he protected his people, and brought rain to the deserts.

(How ridiculous.)

Stories told now by this group are equally outlandish, and seemingly forgotten by the larger portion of Eolo people who reside within Somati.

Kak’Vasha, the wanderer, told wild tales in the nights when huddled around the camp fires. How whispers from his dreams told him the secret to use magic. In fact, it was the very cries of their ancestors who reached out to tell him these secrets. He explained his reflection while painting markings on his skin, clothes, staff, and followers. He said, “This magical path was the way the ancients had devised through their connection with the natural world. With this we can walk through fire, dance upon water, and transcend nature itself.”

“We are the children of great dragons long forgotten, or it could be said, we the Eolo, are what came of them.”

(What madness is a dragon? Some profaned monstrosity?)

“You see, the answer is in our blood, and with it we can perform magic. It will be finite, and will need to be practiced, refined, and most importantly, maintained.”

The Wandering Children of Kak’Vasha say that this was the beginning of their Blood Rune Magic, and if this so-called “Dragon” is indeed a profaned monster as hypothesized, then that would explain why the wretched Profane seem to ignore them. It was thanks to Blood Rune Magic that they survived the searing deserts with these newly taught gifts, but the stories of this Kak’Vasha seem to defy all current understandings of the capabilities of Blood Rune Magic.

(An unnamed Yui officials research report to a superior while scouting Somati for signs of impending conflict.)
